DC Poets: J. Howard

Song of the Overwhelmed Bard

Take away the rush and the clutter,

the frantic dancing in my head;

Take away my plotting parley,

proffer passage to my bed.

Take away what’s mattered mostly

in the morning when I’m gone:

Take away my sacred touchtones,

 my whiskey and my song.

 J. Howard is a local poet, driver of this month's Truck, and coordinator of A Splendid Wake. She teaches writing at Montgomery College.
